Go away winter!

I am so ready for summer to get here! So we had a relatively dry and somewhat mild winter, and we were all starting to get nervous that we would plunge into a far more severe drought than last year.  But, old man winter has decided to finally open the heavens.  A week ago we got well over a foot of snow in 3 days, it just wouldn't stop snowing! While snow in April is not unusual, the volume of it this time was quite amazing!  My backyard on the first day of the storm... I had twice as much by the end of it!  As a result, with it quickly melting off, it has been a muddy muddy mess and I've just been too busy to get to the...

Chicken Casualties

So, I'm rather sad.  We've been keeping Chickens now for over 2 years.  I really enjoy them, they are funny, entertaining, and give the best eggs.  When we first started keeping chickens we had a big issue with the local foxes using us for their dinner buffet... we lost several chickens before we figured out how to fox-proof our coop and run.  However, in the past year the foxes seemed to have disappeared and we hadn't had any issues or incidents.  So, I'll admit, we had gotten quite lax about chicken security. mmmmm... watermelon! Unfortunately, the foxes found us again this past week.  We lost 4 of the 6 chickens...

Super bowl sunday ramblings

So, nothing terribly interesting to report on. We've managed to make it back above sub-zero temperatures, it was 21*F this morning when I went out to start my truck to head to work and dangit if it didn't feel WARM! That's sad... lol The super bowl is today, and... me, football loving me, hasn't watched a lick of football this year. I blame it on work, school, and not having cable for the past couple of months. Of the teams playing, the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Green Bay Packers, I don't like either team, however I DESPISE the Steelers, right alongside the Patriots. Grr... evil teams, both of them.
